Head office staff

Richard Jamieson (Managing Director)

Richard is a Philosopher, an Engineer, and a coach. At least, those are the things he has qualified in. Born and raised in Cape Town, he attended Diocesan College and then the University of Cape Town, graduating with an Honours degree in Electrical Engineering.

After university he worked in London for two years as a front office corporate finance analyst at Citigroup. Returning in 2006, he took up a position at the Democratic Alliance, where he started the party’s Leadership Academy and was responsible for developing the current and future leaders of the party.

On a surfski trip with Simon in late 2009, Richard became convinced that solar water heating was the most financially viable technology for both reducing South Africa’s carbon footprint and reducing the electricity bills of South African homeowners. It was only a few months later that he and Simon formed Solar Science. In October 2010 Solar Science merged with Yes Solar

Yes Solar represents a combination of his environmental conscience with a desire to create a profit-driven business. He believes that it is possible to make a profit and do good. The formula for this is simple: provide a quality product, backed up with great service and expert advice.

When Richard’s not working on getting more solar water heaters onto South African homes, you’ll find him surfing, jogging, meditating, doing yoga, or watching movies.

Simon Lamond (Technical Director)

Simon is a qualified, registered plumber and solar water heating installer. As a plumber’s son (his father is Peter the Plumber), Simon has been working as a plumber’s apprentice since before he could walk.

During a stint in Australia Simon completed a Properties Making Course at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney. This allowed him to work on the construction side of prop making, life drawing, puppetry, prosthetics, sculpting, furniture making, scenic art and model making for theatre, film and television sets in Australia, Asia and South Africa.

In early 2008 Simon decided to start up Green Plumbing, with the intention of moving increasingly into the sustainable aspects of construction and plumbing, including water conservation and solar water heating. In June 2010 Simon and Richard decided to join forces and launch Solar Science, focusing on solar water heating installations. In Octover Solar Science merged with Yes Solar

When Simon’s not on someone’s roof installing a set of solar panels you’ll probably find him racing down Table Mountain on his mountain bike. He and his brother Nic were the second placed men’s amateur team at the 2010 Absa Cape Epic – an event Simon has now completed five times.

Charles Bryant (Franchising)

Charles has a passion for the ecopreneurial spirit and looks for it in everyone. Being interested in the environment and business, Charles created the franchised network for Water Rhapsody, and recognising the synergies between water and energy, began fine tuning a model to give Yes Solar a national footprint of the highest quality of people.
Charles is also a keen photographer and adventurer and has co-authored and photographed a book on African Trees.
